Peavler Ivone on 11/25/1993, Luke wanted when he was a child to be a doctor.
However, he contracted "brain fever," became deaf, and was never able
to speak normally thereafter. He was dissuaded by family and gave up the idea
of becoming a doctor, but for the rest of his life, he was frequently consulted
by family and friends on the various ailments and illnesses they encountered.
-Luke attended the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville KY.
-In 1922, not wanting to take the risk that there "might be something to
it," Luke took up religion and was baptized in a water tank on his farm,
there for watering the animals. He was married to Nancy Jane SALLEE on Jul 27

Co. KY -- Vol. 20, p. 197. -According to Gene (Lula May) Peavler Ivone on 11/25/1993,
Nancy was dark-complected, blind, and 93 years old when she died. She spent
the last 20 years of her life with her son, Jeff, in Indiana. She originally
came from "somewhere else," apparently from someplace other than Kentucky,
and was decended from the "Black Dutch," derivation unknown, but believed
to be Cherokee, possibly Melungeon. - My mother, Nellie J. Peavler Coslow, used
to say that one of her female ancestors was half-Spanish and half-Indian, but
she didn't know which one.
-In the 1860 census, Nancy Martin Sallee lived in George and Isabinda Sallee's
house with her two children, Andrew and Nancy Jane Sallee. -- J.D. Bailey, Sallees,
p. 156.
-After Jeff Hale divorced Mary, Nancy reared Bertha Hale, Jeff's daughter. Children
were:

splendid specimen of manhood and was never sick a day in his life until just
a week before his death. He was killing hogs and scratched his wrist very slightly
with a butcher knife and blood poisoning resulted which ended his life a few
days later." He was buried in McMullin Cemetery, Washington Co. KY.
