232. Oliver SALLÉ (40) (40) was born on Nov 5 1749 in Manakintown VA. He Moved to: KY in 1796. He died after 1831 in Somerset KY. Drops off the Mercer Co. KY tax list after 1831. He was buried in Sinking Creek Church Cemetery, Somerset KY. -Tailor by trade.
-On Dec. 28, 1797, he bought 200 acres of land on Chaplain's Fork in Mercer Co., KY. The land was part of the Feb. 19, 1788, survey by James Thompson, patented at Richmond, Madison Co., KY. He sold the land to his son, John Sallee, Sr., in 2 parcels of 94 and 106 acres, in 1808 and 1812, respectively. He was married to Sarah "Hannah" JOHNSON on Nov 28 1774 in Charlotte Co. VA. (38)

233. Sarah "Hannah" JOHNSON(40) (40) was born about 1750 in VA. (38) She died in 1820 in Somerset KY. (1010) She was buried in Sinking Creek Church Cemetery, Somerset KY. First cousin to Col. Richard M. Johnson, who distinguished himself in the Revolutionary War. Children were:

child i. Capt. William Johnson SALLEE was born in 1775 in Charlotte Co. VA. He died in 1830 in Pulaski Co. KY. He served in the military War of 1812. (1011) -Pvt/Capt. In Capt. Thomas Dollarhide's Co., Ky. Mounted Volunteer Militia; Batallion Commander: Major Renick, later Maj. Gen. Hopkins. He was buried in Sinking Creek Church Cemetery, Somerset KY.

child v. Rev. Stephen SALLEE was born in 1786 in Charlotte Co. VA. He died in 1851 in Taney Co. MO. He was buried in Kissee Mills Cemetery, Taney Co. MO. Grave not located when cemetery relocated in the 1950s and is one of
the "unknown" markers in the new cemetery. He Moved to: Schuler Co. IL, Washington Co. AR. -Moved to IL after his marriage, where he served as Justice of the Peace in Schuyler Co. Moved to Arkansas in 1830, where Polly died in the 1840s. Stephen later lived in Barry, Taney, and Ozark counties in MO. -Was a Baptist minister.
child vi. James SALLEE(40) was born in 1786 in VA.(1014) He died on Sep 16 1856 in Pekin IL.(1015) He was buried in Carmi IL. -According to Mrs. Elizabeth Sallee Searle's Jan. 2, 1906, letter [she was 90 years old at the time]: " . . . Oliver Sallee and Hannah [Sarah] Johnson had several children . I am sure that most of them were born in VA; and I think that all of them were born in VA. The children were: William, John, Nancy, Jane, James, Stephen, and Reynaud [Rene' Chastain]. The sons are in the proper order, but the daughters may have been born before or after the two sons between whom they are placed. Of the sons, William and John remained in Ky. near Danville. James emigrated to Spencer Co. IN and then to Bureau County IL. Perry [Oliver Perry, not mentioned before] moved to IN near Evansville. Stephen moved to Schuyler Co. IL and then to MO. . . ."
-James was a farmer, but often tended a mill.
child vii. Oliver Perry SALLEE was born in 1788 in Charlotte Co. VA. (1016) He was living in 1810 in Ohio Co. KY. He served in the military between 1812 and 1815.(1017) -Served in Captain Walker's Company, 14th Reg't from 01 Jun 1812 (enlisted at Yellow Banks KY (now Owensboro) until May 1815 when he was honorably discharged in Ohio Co. KY.
-Applied for pension on Jan 6, 1857. He Moved to: White Co. IL in 1842. He died in 1872 in Heralds Prairie IL.(1018) He was buried in Old Sharon Presbyterian Cemetery, White Co. IL.
child viii. Jane SALLEE was born in 1790. She was buried in Fountain Co. IN.
child ix. Reynard Chastain "René" "Raney S." SALLEE (1019) was born on May 22 1792.(1020) (1021) He died on Dec 22 1838 in Harrodsburg KY.(1022) -In Box C-105 of Mercer Co. KY Circuit Court, March Term, 1839 Grand Jury: "The grand jurors for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, good and lawful men ... upon their oaths present: That Michael Horn, late of Mercer Co., laborer, on the 22nd day of Dec., in the year of our Lord, 1838, in the co. of Mercer, having the fear of God before his eyes, but being moved and seduced by the instigation of the Devil, with force and ____ upon one Raney S. Sallee, , in the peace of God___then and there being feloniously, willfully, and of his malice afore-thought did make an afault; and that the said Michael Horn, with a certain knife, of the value of two shillings, which he then and there, in his right hand, had and held; the said Raney S. Sallee, on the breast, about two inches below the collar bone of him, the said Sallee, then and there, feloniously___and of malice afore-thought did strike, and thrust; giving to the said Sallee, then and there, with the knife___upon the breast, near the collar bone___one mortal wound of the breadth of two inches and of the depth of two inches, of which mortal wound, the said Sallee, did instantly die. The jurors do say that the said Michael Horn, did feloniously, wilfully, and of his malice afore-thought, did kill, and __?__ against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Ky. This indictment is found upon information from: Henry Deshaser, James Desheaser and Jacob Wickersham. -the jury found the named Michael Horn, not guilty of the offence charged of him. March term 1839 grand Jury [can you believe 'the Devil made him do it !]" He served in the military War of 1812.(1023) (1024) -Enlisted on 11/10/1814 in Capt. George Mcfee's Co., Lt. Col. Gabriel Slaughter's Regiment, Ky. Detached Militia. Participated in the Battle of New Orleans. He known as R.S., Shattie, Are. -Aka "Arainey" and "Araney". Last name spelled "Sally" in Ky Adjutant General's Report on the Soldiers of the War of 1812, 8/18/1891.
-Second wife, Sarah "Sally" Peavler Kittinger Sallee Short, applied for a pension based on his military service.
-He owned 60 acres, 140 acres, and 59 acres on Chaplin's Fork of Salt River, Mercer Co. KY.
