As set forth in Generation III, strong circumstantial evid e nce suppor ts the belief that the posthumous child was nam e d Francis. Unfortunat ely, it probably never will be possi bl e to secure documentary evidenc e in support of this pres ump tion since the baptism, marriage and buri al registers o f Ba rwick-in-Elmet parish are missing from 1602 to 1630 i n clusi ve. In the book, "History of Barwick-in-Elmet", Joh n Settl e w as listed in 1610 as glover of Potterton. In 163 0, the f ollowing are l isted:
"Heirs of John Settle, Heirs of John Settle, Heirs of Rich a rd Settle, W illiam Settle".
"In the list of tenants for 1678 is shown "Widow Settle" . A lso, "Wido w Settle had the third part of her husband' s copy hold estate paid to h er in money over fourty years" . Sinc e John Settle died in Potterton 1 622-23, Margery hi s wido w would be the recipient of the estate over t he 40 y ear per iod. The following is a partial list of manorial te nan ts, P otterton, about 1630:

sponsored by James Williamson of Old Rappahannock County, Virginia. W illiamson

As set forth in Generation III, strong circumstantial evidence supp orts the belief that the posthumous child was named Francis. Unfortunat ely, it probably never will be possible to secure documentary
evidence in support of this presumption since the baptism, marriage a nd burial registers of Barwick-in-Elmet parish are missing from 1602 to 1 630 inclusive. In the book, "History of
Barwick-in-Elmet", John Settle was listed in 1610 as glover of Pott erton. In 1630, the following are listed:
"Heirs of John Settle, Heirs of John Settle, Heirs of Richard Settl e, William Settle".
"In the list of tenants for 1678 is shown "Widow Settle". Also, "Wi dow Settle had the third part of her husband's copyhold estate paid to h er in money over fourty years". Since John Settle died in
Potterton 1622-23, Margery his widow would be the recipient of the e state over the 40 year period. The following is a partial list of manor ial tenants, Potterton, about 1630:
