He was born {I th ink} in the State of M arylan d, and early entered the list of those wh o, under Go d, secu red to us the freedom and happiness of our happy co u ntry an d whose names are endeared to the free citizens o f favore d Am erica. As to the general character of this age d veteran , there is not hing peculiarly striking, more tha n he sustan ed a good name as an hon est citizen, and an ind ustrious mec hanic. He was a famous gunsmith. H is greates t peculiarit y was his great age and seeing, perhaps, as nu m erous a prog eny as any man of his day. His children, gran dchildren, g re at-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild ren number abou t 300 p ersons. His aged companion still liv es, being abou t 100 years of agae , and lives too in the br ight prospect o f meeting her departed husban d, with whom e she has lived s o long on earth, in a better and more ha p y country than fav ored America..
Covington, Ga. Feb. 5, 1839 signed P.P. Smith. Mr. Sm i th was the f irst-born of William Suttle's youngest child . T he old pioneer is prob ably buried in Mt. Gilead Cemeter y a t Ben Hill, near which placed he d ied. However his grav e i n unmarked and he may be one of the sleepers a t old Uto y Ce metery. The Suttle family is represented in both cemet e ries . Our present accommodating Fulton County tax collect or, T. Earl S uttles is one of the numerous local descendant s of th is Revolutionary s oldier.

The founder of one of the oldest familie s in the Atlanta area died Jan uary 23, 1839, at the remarkable
age of 107. {The Southern Christian Advocate Methodist , in its issue o f Feb. 22 1839, informs us of
another Revolutionary Soldier fallen Departed this life on Wednesday th e 23rd ult. at the home of Rev.
John M. Smith in DeKalb County, Georgia.
William Suttles, in the 107th year of his age. He was born {I think} in t he State of Maryland, and early
entered the list of those who, under God, secured to us the freedom and h appiness of our happy
country and whose names are endeared to the free citizens of favored Am erica. As to the general
character of this aged veteran ,there is nothing peculiarly striking, m ore than he sustaned a good name
as an honest citizen, and an industrious mechanic. He was a famous guns mith. His greatest peculiarity
was his great age and seeing, perhaps, as numerous a progeny as any man o f his day. His children,
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren numbe r about 300 persons. His aged
companion still lives, being about 100 years of age, and lives too in t he bright prospect of meeting her
departed husband, with whom she has lived so long on earth, in a better a nd more hapy country than
