Piers Gaveston was promised safe conduct to trial in London after he wa s seized at Scarborough Castle, but on the way he was summarily beheade d by the Earl of Warwick, his implacable enemy. [Scarborough Castle, p. 1 6]

Reflecting the growing importance of the de Beauchamps, Guy was one of a g roup of earls known as the Ordainers. With their own interests firmly a t heart, they aimed to impose, through a list of 'ordinances' or consti tutional demands, some form of control over the way the king, Edward II , both raised his revenue and governed the kingdom. For some ordainers, c omplaints about royal power (especially royal spending power) centered o n the role at court of Piers Gaveston, a Gascon knight and the king's l over.
At a time of heightened political tension in 1312, Gaveston, promise d that his life would be safe, surrendered to the Ordainer earls. Howev er, Guy de Beauchamp and Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, seized the prisoner a nd brought him to Warwick Castle. After a perfunctory trial, which may h ave been held in the Great Hall, Gaveston was sentenced to death and be headed on Blacklow Hill, just outside Warwick.
Although Guy died three years later in 1315, his very young son did n ot succeed to the title until 1329 because of his minority. Thomas de B eauchamp came of age on the verge of the outbreak of the Hundred Years W ar with France. [Warwick Castle, p. 42-44]

In 1312, he captured Gaveston a t Deddington in Oxfordshire, met with other barons at Warwidck and deci ded on gaveston's death. He handed his prisoner over to Thomas, 2nd ear l of Lancaster, for execution on 19 June 1312. [The Plantagenet Encyclo pedia, p. 25]
