In the name of God Amen The twelfth day of March in the year of our Lor done thousand seven hundred and fifty nine I John SPRUILL Senr ofScuppe rlong in calling to remembrance the Mortality of My Body andknowing tha t it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordainthis my las t will and testament (that is to say) Principally and first ofall I giv e and recommend my soul into the hands of God and my body Irecommend to t he Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at thediscretion of my E xecutors nothing doubting but all the generalresurection I shall receiv e the same again by the Mighty Power of God andas touching such worldly e state wherewith it hath pleased God to bless mein this life I give dism ise and dispose of the same in
the following manner and form:
Imprimus: I give to my well beloved son John SPRUILL one Negro man call edMINGO to him and his heirs for ever
ITEM I give unto my well beloved sone Even SPRUILL one Negro or Melatto man named ABRAM to him and his heirs for ever
ITEM I give to my well beloved wife Mary SPRUILL the use and ocapation o fmy whole estate during her widowhood and when my children comes of age t omake an equel devision in the estate and let them when they come of ag ehave there part according to the descression of my executors and in ca sethe Negro woman named PATIENCE should have any children let my threed aughters
Elizabeth SPRUILL, Jemima SPRUILL, and Debroah SPRUILL to have each oft hem one of the increase if any and the other part of the said Negrowoma n to my two sons John SPRUILL and Evin SPRUILL and in case theaforesaid N egro woman hath no children then I give her to my son EvenSPRUILL to hi m and his heirs for ever.

ITEM I give unto my beloved son SAMUEL SPRUILL the plantation that wasf ormerly CUDBERT PHELPES upon the creek together with one hundred andfif ty acres of old Catim? land beginning at the head of the Deep Branchwhe re the SAMUEL ALEXANDER line begun running to the road upward to thefir st Branch then along the road to WILLIAM JENNETT line and along thatlin e to the corner tree. also I give to my son SAMUEL SPRUILL eighty twoac res of land all the Cypress Branch also I give to my son SAMUEL SPRUILL one ????????????????? part next to the ??????? Callorn? land to him and his heirs and assigns for ever
ITEM. I give unto my son ?ON SPRUILL the plantation up Great Alligatora nd the land there unto belonging also one hundred and twenty five acres of land at the lake joining his brother SAMUEL
SPRUILL land also the stock up Great Alligator to him and his heirs and assigns for ever.
ITEM. I give unto my son JOSE SPRUILL the plantation whereon SAMUELALEX ANDER lived together with the land thereunto belonging beginning atthe h ead of the Deep Branch and along the branch down to the Creek Swampwest erly and southwardly the various windings of the Swamp ?? Branch nextto t he clearing and then along the rode to the rode that goes to JOSHUAPHEL PSIS and along that rode to ??? containing one hundred acres of landold P atten and fifty of New Patten land also two hundred and twenty acresof l and up Alligator Lake on the north side to him and his heirs andassigns f or ever.
ITEM. I give unto my son LEVON SPRUILL the place known by the name of t heClearing with two hundred and fifty acres of land and fifty acres of o ldPatten land and two hundred acres of ???? a hundred and twenty acres o fland joining his brother JOHN SPRUILL at the lake to him and his heirs and assigns for ever.
ITEM. I give unto my beloved son SEMEON SPRUILL the Manner Plantationwh ereon I did live together with two hundred acres of old Patten land and one hundred acres of New Patten land to him and his heirs and assigns f orever also I give to my son SAMUEL SPRUILL one half of the still that h ebought for his father and the other half I give unto SEMEON SPRUILL to them and their heirs and assigns forever.
ITEM. I give unto JAMES the son of MARY DILLING also one hundred acres o fland know by the name of the Dogwood thicket at the south land.
And I leave my Negroes to be divided among my children when SEMEONSPRUI LL comes to the age of twenty one years as equally as possible theycan a nd when they come to the age of twenty one years my executors or anythr ee free holders to let them have some part of ??? of the Negroes forto h elp ??? in the division aforesaid and one equal part ??? betweenSAMUEL S PRUILL JOSEPH SPRUILL STEVEN SPRUILL and SEMEON SPRUILL at theManner Pl antation and all other ??? that is mine Great? In the name of God amen: The ninteenth day of August in the year of o ur Lord one thousand sev en hundred and sixty I Samuel Spruill Senr. of T yrrel County North Carolina being very sick a nd weak but in perfect mi nd and memory thanks be to God for the same and calling to mind th e mo rtallyty of my body and knowing that it is appoiinted for all men once t o die do therefor e make and ordain this my last Will and Testament tha t is to say principally and first of al l I give and recommend my soul i nto the hands of God and my body I recommend to the Earth t o be buried i n a decent Christain burial at the duretion of my Executors nothing but a t the G eneral Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the might y power of "Allmighty God an d as touching such Worly Estate where with i t hath pleased God to bless me in this life I giv e demise dispose of t he same in following manner & form.

Item - I give to by beloved son Joseph Spruill one hundred acres of l and more or less bounde d thus beginning at a popular a corner tree at t he head of the Cypress swamp thence a line o f marked trees southeast a nd by south to a poplar thence by a line of marked trees to a gum i n N ormans line and on the said line to the Cypress swamp thence up the Cyp ress swamp and it s various windings to the first station unto him his h eirs and assigns forever also one negr o boy Durcy by name and one thir d part of the orchard at the manner plantation for seven year s provide d he shall assist equaly in keeping it in good repair.
Item - I give my beloved daughter Joanna Blount the use and occupat ion of three negros durin g her natural life named Ruth Venus and Londo n and after her decease to be eaqully divided am ong the heirs of her b ody by if her present husband Jacob Blount doth commence any law suit o r b ring any action in law in relation of the above negros then I give the a bove said negroe s Ruth Venus & London to my son Joseph Spruill forever - --
Item - I give my beloved daughter Joanna Blount one shilling sterli ng money.
Item - I give my beloved granson John Spruill one hundred and fifte en acres of land more or l ess it being part of the land his father liv ed on and all that part on the West or South sid e of the Boxen Swamp t o him and his heirs and assigns.
Item - I give unto my grandson Evan Spruill one hundred and fifteen a cres of land more or les s it being the other part of the land whereon h is father lived all that part on the North Eas t side of Boxen Swamp to h im his heirs and assigns forever likewise one hundred acres of lan d at t he South Fork binding on my son Joseph line to him his heirs and assign s forever.
Item - I give to my son Joseph Spruill one hundred acres of land kn own by the name of Jacob s land in the South Fork to him his heirs and a ssigns forever also one negro or mollatto ma n named Sam.
Item - I leave to my beloved wife Mary Spruill the use and occupati on of the house and planta tion whereon I now live and timber for the u se of the same and after her decease or widowhoo d then I give the mann er plantation with one hundred and twenty five acres of land thereunt o b elonging be the same more or less unto my son Jeremiah Spruill him and t he heirs of his bo dy lawfully begotten forever also I give unto Jeremi ah one mollato boy name Mose also one neg ro named Samson.
Item - I give unto my son Jeremiah Spruill one beed and furniture t hereunto belonging and on e chest called Mothers chest unto him and his h eirs forever, also one bill for money from Mar y Spruill widow bearing d ate seventeen hundred and sixty two.
Item - I give to my son Nehemiah Spruill one hundred acres on the s ound know by the name of t he sand banks and one plantation with two hu ndred and thirty acres of land known by the nam e of the South land to h im his heirs and assigns forever also all the cattle belonging to th e S outh land plantation also one negro woman named Abigal to him and his h eirs forever also o ne beed and furniture thereunto belonging also one s mall chest with a lock & key to it know n by Mothers chest I give unto t he heirs of my daughter Elizabeth Caswell Desd. one shillin g sterling m oney.
Item - I give unto my daughter Jemima Garrett one negro man named E mporors in her possession s & one cow and calf or twenty five shillings i n money to her and her heirs forever.
Item - I give to the heirs of my daughter Zilpha Hooker deceasd. on e shilling sterling mone y also I give unto my grand daughter Elizabeth H ooker one gold ring with a stone in it.
Item - I leave to my wife Mary Spruill during her widdowhood one mo latto man named Able and o ne negro girl named Jenney and a bill for mo ney due from Mary Spruill widdow of twenty pound s bearing date sevente en hundred & sixty and one mair named Bonney and one horse named Jack a n d my riding horse sadle and bridle togeather with six cows and calves a nd four of the larges t stears and ten sowes and piggs and ten hoggs of a y ear old and the beed whereon I now lie a nd the furniture thereunto bel onging and the beed whereon the girls do lie and the furnitur e belongi ng to it and three dishes three basons and six plates and four poots an d all the pew ter that was here in her widdowhood and one large chest k nowne by the name of Fathers chest a nd a smal chest that was bought of S prings one box iron & heeters and the wolling wheele tha t Holt made an d the two linnen wheels and six chairs and the cards belongint to the w heels an d five ews and all the cotton wool & flax for my wife Mary Spr uill use and five hogheads he r choice and one third part of the orchar d and I give to Jeremiah Spruill on third part of th e orchard if he he lps to keep it in repair also I give to my wife Mary Spruill all the ca ttl e over the Bay and if my wife Mary Spruill deceases or marries then t he above premises to b e taken into the hands of my Executors for the u se of my two smal children James and Zilpha S pruill.
Item - I give to my son Nehemiah Spruill on bill for money of twent y pounds due from Mary Spr uill widdow bearing date seventeen hundred a nd sixty one and one brass kettle --
And any law suite should be commenced against my Estate after my de ceased these four which i s above mentioned that is to say my wife Mary S pruill my son Jeremiah Spruill and my son Nehe miah Spruill and my son J oseph Spruill which hath a bill left them of twenty pounds apiece sh al l equally bear the cost of the said law suite and if either of them ref use to pay and equa l part of such law suite then the bill of twenty po unds which is left them shall be refund ba ck to my Executors to bare t he cost of such law suite.
Item - I give unto my son Joseph Spruill one negro boy named Ben du ring his natural life an d after his decease then I give the boy named B en unto my grand son Thomas Spruill to him hi s heirs and assigns forev er also I give to Thomas Spruill one cow calf.
Item - I give to my son Jeremiah Spruill one mair named Flower and o ne young horse named Litf oot and one horse named Jack and all the rema ining part of the cattle belonging to the Manne r plantation and all th e remaining part of my Estate I leave to be divided between my two son s J eremiah and Hehemiah eaqually and I do constitute make and ordain my tw o sons Samuel Sprui ll and Joseph Spruill Executors of this my last Wil l and Testament and I do hereby disanul re voak and disalow all other T estaments Wills Lagacyes bequeaths and Executors by me in any wis e nam ed Willed and bequeathed retifying and confirming this and no other to b e my last Will a nd Testament In witness wereof I the said Samuel Sprui ll Senr.
