Rev. William Speer (1652-?) was born in Aryshire, Scotland and immigrat edto County Antrim, Northern Ireland where his son John Speer (1693-176 4)and grandson John (William?) Speer (1723-1771) were born. Rev. Willi am'sfive great-grandsons, William, Sr. (1747-1830), John (1748-1842),Al exander, Joseph, and James, all born in Ireland, immigrated to Americai n the late 1700's. William, Sr. was a half brother to brothers John,Al exander, Joseph, and James. Eventually they all settled in thesouthern U nited States, primarily in Georgia and South Carolina wheretheir famili es prospered and grew large.
Although nothing is known about the families of Joesph or James, thefam ilies of Wiliam, Sr. , John and Alexander are well documented; somebran ches of all thre families moved on to Alabama, Texas and Florida inthe 1 80's where again large families were established. As of August2000, my g eneology list covers 13 generations with over 5,500individuals, both pa st and present, related to our earliest known Speer.
