"The Ferguson Family: The Story of James Wiley Ferguson and Mary Elizab eth Jones" states: "But the boy, Robin, had now become a man and met an d married Frances Love, who had come from her antive land, Ireland, a f ew years after Robin had played the part of the Good Samaritan at the B attle of Kings Mountain. Th ere is a legend about Frances Love that wil l perhaps add interest to the story . Frances Love was twelve years old w hen she left Ireland with her parents bound for America. On the way ove r, a terrible storm arose and their ship was driven southward to the Is land of Jamaica. It was so hot there that the pitch with which the boat w as put together began to melt. The wind soon changed and the light craf t was driven north and landed, after a time, in South Carolina. Robin F erguson and his wife, Frances Love Ferguson, left South Carolina in the l atter part of the 18th century and located in what is now known as Spri ng Creek in Madison County, North Carolina. There they remained for som e years, and later moved into what is now Haywood County a few years pr ior to 1800, and located on Rush Fork creek. In the cemetery of the Cra btree Baptist church, Crabtree township, Haywood County, there stands a m onument erected August 14, 1926 by the descendants of the first family o f Fergusons that came to Haywood county. Upon the monument is this insc ription: Robert (or Robin) Ferguson, who was also settled here prior to 1 800 was also of Scotch descent, having come from Glascard and settled f irst in (now ) Madison County, NC and later on Rus h Fork creek. He mar ried Frances (Fannie) Love, a native of Ireland. An old f amily record g ives the birth of Robin Ferguson as 1764, and his death as Febru ary 18 , 1826, and Frances Love Ferguson's birth as 1768, and her death as Oct o ber 16, 1858.
