Newton writes the following about himself] His childhood and youth were spent on the Old Homestead farm in ebanon, Conn. In his seventeenth year he entered the world as a teacher of a country school in Lisbon, Conn. Two years were spent inWorchester, Mass., learning the carpenter's trade. Two more alternated between teaching and work at his trade; then commenced a course of study at the State Normal school, New Britian, Conn; after six months left to accept an urgent call as pricipal of school at Willimantic, Conn., after three years resigned to continue course of study at the Wilbraham Academy, Mass., for two years. Then followed teaching two years in Rockville, Conn., one season in the west, then nineteen successive years teaching in New London, Conn. In additionto the foregoing, many activities engaged his time in church and Sunday school work, alos in Young Men's Christian Association work, being chariman of the State Executive Committee of Connecticut for four years, and actively engaged in its evangelical work of three years, his leisure being devoted to genealogical researches especially of the "Fuller families." |
