51. Stephen Decatur Eldredge (1) was born on 12 Apr 1828 in Jordan, Onondaga Co., NY. He died on 16 Apr 1892 in Brutus, Cayuga Co., NY. He was buried in Weedsport Cemetery, Weedsport, Cayuga Co., NY. His grandfather, was one of the pioneer settlers of Onondaga Co., NY. When he was between 6 to 8 years old, his father moved to Cato, Cayuga Co., NY, where he engaged in the hotel business. When a young man, Steven moved to Weedsport, Cayuga Co., NY, where he worked for awhile at farming. Afterwards he became a clerk in the store of William B. Havens, who carried on the grocery business. Later he went to work with William Faatz in the grocery business, eventually becoming his partner. This experience enabled him to establish his own business in the grocery trade, which he continued until his retirement in 1890.

He was married to Susan Emmaline Stevens on 20 Jan 1859 in Weedsport, Cayuga Co., NY. Susan Emmaline Stevens (23) was born on 30 May 1840 in Weedsport, Cayuga Co., NY. She died on 21 Aug 1920 in Weedsport, Cayuga Co., NY. She was the daughter of Ira Stevens, and she came from a family well known and prominent in Cayuga County. Her great-grandfather was William Stevens, who was the founder of Weedsport, Cayuga Co., NY. He was of an old Massachusetts family, and in his youth he left home and settled in Central New York where he engaged in farming and also conducted a hotel. Others soon joined him and the small settlement became a town, which was first known as Macedonia, and afterwards called Weedsport. Stephen Decatur Eldredge and Susan Emmaline Stevens had the following children:
