FIRST GENERATION

1. Thomas Alcott⁽¹⁾⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ was born about 1609 in Yorkshire, England.⁽³⁾ He was the son of John and Elizabeth Alcott of Yorkshire, England. He immigrated to America in 1630, settling in Massachussetts. He died on 14 Jul 1657 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA.

"The name is spelled "Alcock" in English history. As a surname, it was established by authority of the King about the year 1616 by the granting of a 'coat of arms', and according to the law established first by King Henry III in about 1250, the surname was inherited by all descendants of the family. The name was spelled "Alcocok" in this country until about 1770, when the spelling was changed to "Alcox" and also "Allcox". This was the spelling on all records as well as in the family until 1820 to 1825, when by the proposition of Dr. William A. and A. Bronson Alcott, it was by common consent, and not by legislative enactment, changed to "Alcott", and in this form has been world renowned."

He was married to Elizabeth Unknown - Alcott before 1634.⁽⁴⁾ Elizabeth Unknown - Alcott⁽¹⁾ was born about 1618 in England. She died after 1657 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. Thomas Alcott and Elizabeth Unknown - Alcott had the following children:

4 iii. Elizabeth Alcott⁽¹⁾ was born on 4 Oct 1638 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA. She was christened on 4 Oct 1638 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA.
5 iv. Sarah Alcott⁽¹⁾ was born on 28 Dec 1639 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA. She died on 29 Dec 1711 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA.
6 v. Hannah Alcott⁽¹⁾ was born on 25 May 1642 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA. She died between 1643 and 1718 in Portsmouth, Rockingham Co, NH.⁽⁵⁾
7 vi. Mary Alcott⁽¹⁾ was born on 4 Oct 1644 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA. She died between 1645 and 1719.⁽⁶⁾
8 vii. Rebecca Alcott⁽¹⁾ was born in 1646 in Dedham, Norfolk Co., MA. She died between 1647 and 1722.⁽⁷⁾

10 ix. John Alcott⁽¹⁾ was born on 2 Jul 1651 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. He was christened on 6 Jul 1651 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. He died before 1712 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA.
