Thomas Saugstad (Sougstad) was born in Ringsaker, Norway, March 26, 1845. He immigrated to America in 1871 and found work in the Wisconsin Pineries, near Lacrosse. He moved to Yankton, SD, and on to Hanson County in Dakota Territory in 1879 where he filed on a homestead. His family is trying to locate descendents of his two sisters who (we believe) remained in Norway. The parents are: Even Olsen "Kjos." Born October 19, 1807, baptized October 25, 1807 in Ringsaker Church. Confirmed October 21, 1821, in Ringsaker Church (his parents: Ole Nielsen and Grethe Eliasdatter Kjos. Kjos was a sharecropper's (cotter's) place owned by the farm Skappelsfjerdingen. On October 20, 1834, Even Olsen married Elie Johannesdatter in Ringsaker Church.Elie Johannesdatter "Praesterud." Born 1803, baptized February 13, 1803 in Ringsaker Church. She was born at the Praesterud sharecropper's place, owned by the Maehlum farm. Her parents were Sargeant Johannes Torstensen and Gjoa Gulbrandsdatter Praesterud. We have information regarding the brothers who immigrated to America, but would be very excited to learn about the two sisters: Gonner Evensdatter, born February 24, 1836, confirmed September 15, 1850, and Grethe Evensdatter Saugstad, born September 23, 1842, baptisted December 26, 1843 in Veldre Church, confirmed November 9, 1856 in Ringsaker Church.Phone: evening: at 919-781-5919
