David (22) and Catherine (20) Joseph were living at 11 Pond Tow, Bedwelty, MON. They were lodgers. David was a Coal Hauler and Catherine a housekeeper.

I have two passages for David and Catherine Joseph through Ellis Island:

date of Arrival: August 20, 1903; Ethnicity: US Citizen; Place of Residence, Tredegar; age on arrival, 45 y 2 m; married; on Oceanic; port of departure Liverpool, England, UK. Catherine was 43.

date of arrival: August 23, 1912; age on arrival, 54; Place of Residence, Wilkeshaire "Wilkes Barre"; on Lusitania; from Liverpool.

David was naturalized on October 4, 1886 in Luzerne County, Wilkes Barre, PA.

They lived at 457 Northhampton Street; Wilkes Barre.

Per descendent of Daniel Scannell (Bernadette Wheeler), Daniel was the Treasurer of the local branch of United Mine Workers of America No. 1168 A.D. 1899. (I have been in touch with the PA archives of the UMW and they have not yet found local no. 1168 - they did say that local 1167 was in Pittsburgh - this needs more research. David died at the age of 77 and is buried in the Cefn Golau Cemetery, Tredegar in Grave 72; Row 4; Section ?

His last place of residence was noted in Cemetery records as Bideford House, Dukestown Road, Tredegar.

David Joseph and Catherine Scannell were married in the first half of 1878 in the District of Bedwelty. Joanne Carroll researched the Immaculate Conception Church records in Tredegar and did not find this marriage, yet. It was on the BMD site on the internet - registered in June, 1878
