My 5th great-grandfather John Allen migrated to Clark County, Kentucky around 1792. He shows up on Clark County's first tax list, as well as early Lulbegrud Baptist church records. From his neighbors on the tax lists and his proximity to the Lulbegrud church, we can conclude he first lived a couple miles south of Mt. Sterling in present day Montgomery Co.
John arrived with an unknown wife and 7 children ranging from 2 to 18 years in age. It is likely this unknown wife died in 1793, because John married Ann Griffin June 18, 1794.
John and Ann had 3 sons and 1 daughter with Ann before he died in January 1804. One of those sons, Richard, was my 4th great-grandfather.
The Lulbegrud Baptist church chose John Allen to be an elder March 3, 1794. Since John Allen and his first wife were never listed in the minutes as being received by the church, we can assume they were founding members when it was formed in March of 1793. No other male Allens are mentioned in the early church minutes.
Much more information on my 5th through 2nd great-grandparents can be found in the PDF documents linked below. A descendant of John's son Daniel and I have each taken a DNA test. Those results and more can be viewed by clicking on the DNA Project linked below.
