A member of the Whig Politcal Party until its dissollution and became the Republican
Political Party.
The Zea families of William have always been members of the Methodist Church.
It is possible that William Zea was related to Mynheer Zea (who was born in Holland)
and his last child, Sylvester was born on April 10, 1819 in Berne (city), Schoharie
County. William was born on October 30, 1812 in the city of Schoharie; County
of Schoharie. Berne and Schoharie cities are located very close to each other.
Mynheer Zea died shortly after the birth of Sylvester and the family was divided
amongst other Zea/Dutch families. His familly also lived in Mongomery County.
I believe the story of three brothers coming to Amrica from Leeuwarden, Holland/NL
in the 1760's was more likely the late 1700's.
Three brothers landed on Manhattan Island. Two eventually returned to Holland
and the third brother remained on Manhattan Island.
The father of William Zea & family also resided in Madison Count, NY.
He was also a Mason and a member of the Woodsmen of America.
Entered by Earl R. Zea, whose Great Grandfather was John William Zea and his
Great-Great Grandfather was William Zea. His grandfather was Sherman Leon Zea
and his father was Russell Byron Zea.
In 1846/1849, he took his family to LaSalle County, IL. They lived in LaHogue,
IL where Lloyd, Howard and Byron Zea were born.
The record changes/additions were made by Earl R. Zea on June 9, 1999. He was
married to Laura Blackman in Madison County, NY. 13.
Laura Blackman(1) was born on 29 Dec
1813 in Madison County, New York. She was christened on 1 Jan 1815. She died
on 3 Aug 1894 in Remington, Indiana. She was buried in Remington, `. She has

She was born in Connecticut.
She was decended from Puritan ancestry.
She met William Zea in Madison County and they later were married there.

Information from Earl Zea, Nov 1998
Following information was taken from a letter written by Sherman Lloyd Zea, eldest
son of Sherman Leon Zea and was written during the year of 1925.
The following was abstraced from the above letter by Earl R. Zea on June 9, 1999:
John W. was a grain and hay dealer in LaHogue, IL. He came to LaSalle County
in 1846 while a teenager. His father was engaged in farming. He married Mary
Arris, who was born in Lincoln County Maine. Hannah Arris, her mother came to
live with John and Mary upon the death of her husband.
In 1868, John W. operated a farm in Ford Count, IL, which was three miles from
LaHogue. John's family moved to LaHogue in 1872 and began dealing in hay, grain
and coal. He was also engaged in a general merchandise business. He was an
agent for the Toledo, Peoria and Warsaw Rail Road at LaHogue, IL and held the
poition of Post Mster for four years. John W. was responsible for the success
of establishing shipping points on the line of the same railroad mentioned.
Large quantities of hay were pressed and shipped from LaHogue.
John W. was a Mason and a member of the IOOF (International Order of Odd Fellows).
John's first employment was as a farm hand for $5.00 per month.
He met Mary Arris, of Ottawa, La Salle County, IL. She was a native of Maine.
Her father was James and her mother was Hannah Arris. Part of their married
life was in Brenton Township, Ford County, IL.
At one time he was a station agent for the railroad in LaHogue.
He built the first home in LaHogue.
He was succeeded as station agent by his son, Sherman Leon Zea.
He built additional houses in LaHouge. He owned an 80 acre farm just outside
the corporation limits of LaHogue. His children were: John C, who engaged in
merchandising at Manchester, Kansas; Clara E. wife of Adam Lamb of LaHogue; Charles
E. of Butterfield, MN; Mary Alice, wife of George B. Hill of La Hogue; Frank
E. of La Hogue; Harry E. who died January 17th, 1897 at the age of 28 years;
James A. a resident farmer of Ridgeland Township; Sherman L. who was a graduate
of Ornaga Comercial College and Lester M. of La Hogue.
On the 17th day of March, 1905; John and Mary celebrated their Golden Wedding
Anniversary.
Since casting his first presidential vote for John C. Freemont, John W. had been
continuously a stalwart advocate of the Republican principles and had frequetly
attended the conventions of his party.
He served as a Trustee of the First Methodist Church of LaHogue.
The people of LaHogue numbered John W. among its founders and promoters.

Madison County, New York. He died on 9 Mar 1907 in Lawton, Oklahoma (son's residence).
