58. Lewis MECHAM was born on 4 Sep 1814 in Canaan Grafton, New Hampshire. He died on 21 Mar 1895 in Provo, Utah. #183380 Early Church Sealings Lewis Mefhan and Lydia Wells sealed in
Provo, Utah 21 Mar 1854. The same day their daughter, Emeline and
Hiram Sweat were sealed.

LEWIS MECHAM–was born Sep 1814, Canaan, Grafton, New Hampshire, son of Joshua Mecham and Permelia Chapman Mecham. He married Lydia Wells. He was a wheelwright, farmer, fruit-grower, nurseryman. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1 Apr 1837 and moved with his family to Nauvoo. He received his endowments in the Nauvoo Temple 30 Dec 1845 before the Saints left Nauvoo. He had served as a body guard to the Prophet Joseph Smith, and was called on missions going to two different tribes of Indians where they were well received, feeling the mission was a success. He came to Utah 5 Oct 1851 with the James Snow company. He was 37 Years old. They had 14 children, 3 dying as children.--Prominent Men of Utah and Nauvoo Temple Records and Mecham Book of Remembrance, p.708 He was married to Lydia WELLS on 9 Apr 1836 in Mercer Co., Pa. He was sealed to spouse on 21 Mar 1854 in the President's Office.

59. Lydia WELLS was born on 6 Aug 1817 in Mercer, Ondage, NY. She was endowed on 30 Dec 1845. She died on 20 Oct 1890. She was sealed to parents on 11 Apr 1962. She was baptized into the LDS church on 22 Nov 1967. LYDIA WELLS MECHAM–daughter of Judah Wells and Temperance Mecham, born 6 Aug 1817 in Skaneateles, Onondaga, New York. After her marriage to Lewis Mecham they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and moved to gather with the Saints. She received her endowments in the Nauvoo Temple 30 Dec 1845. Two children were born at Montrose, Iowa, one at Nauvoo in 1845, and another two born in Garden Grove before arriving in Utah. The last six children of their fourteen children were born in Provo, Utah. She was 34 Years old hen they arrived in Utah Oct 1851 in the James Snow Company.

ix. Martha Jane MECHAM was born on 29 Jan 1852.
x. Lewis MECHAM was born on 28 Mar 1854.
xi. Samantha MECHAM was born on 12 Dec 1856.
xii. Jonathan James MECHAM was born on 6 Nov 1858.
xiii. Judah MECHAM was born on 16 Feb 1860. He died in 1867.
xiv. Sarah Temperance MECHAM was born on 3 May 1863.
