In Ireland - Ballintaggart/Lisnagonel? It is believed that James and his wife Sarah were born in Co Down and may have lived in Ballintaggert. ( also spelt Balintagart) it is 3 Klms south of Loughbrickland -an area of 503 acres and means Priest's townland.V12 OSM. This is in Co Down There are a lot of Campbells in this area and were indeed brought out from Scotland at the time of the Plantation Of Ireland. Records are coming out on the Internet . It seems certain that in that time there were many weavers and and spinners in Ireland and most probably the family was connected to this industry.Certainly they were farmers. For many years the family has been looking in Northern Ireland for this couple, without success. It now seems, through research that I found James and Sarah, who travelled to I.O.M sometime before the 1841 Census. On the Tithe Plan for Lambfell Beg 1839, James Campbell is leasing 40 acres of land from Thomas and John Quine at Lambfell Beg, in Kirk German. From the 1841 Census - German District- we have the family living at Lambfell Beg-- a property next door to Lambfell Moar. Lambfell Beg James --70 years ,a farmer--- from Ireland Isabella-- 70 years , his wife , (but known to be Sarah )---from Ireland David Donaldson --30 years --ag. labourer-- from Ireland Ann 30 yrs - Ireland ( probably the daughter of James and Sarah ) Sarah Campbell 7 years- female servant from Ireland., Note-- William had migrated in 1838 Probably the family grew flax and crops of potatoes and other crops. James died and was buried in Kirk Michael on 29 Nov 1847 Sarah aged 87 years ( records noted Lambfield German ) buried at Kirk Michael on 18th April 1854. ( from IOM FHS) His will is probated in June 1848 Ger A 62 0106252 From the will of James ( signed with a cross) we find that his wife's name was Sarah Donaldson. Was it the practice on the IOM wills to name the wife's maiden name ? He left a shilling each to his son's Alexander and Thomas. His daughter Ann was to receive the money from the lease in the event of Sarah's death. And what about William ? There is no mention of William -- yet we feel sure he belongs to this family. Researchers say that there could be many reasons why he was named--he could have been given a share when he left IOM--or maybe to send a share to Australia would have been too costly, in those days. We can come to many conclusions about him-- but as we have exhausted all avenues, on the IOM, with the help of a researcher, it seems we may never know for sure. However, I am confident that we have the correct family Further information comes from a researcher and from the Tithe plans James Campbell leased land in Lambfell Beg from 1839.
