Arthur William Whittingstall was educated at a private school in Ryde, where his fellow scholars included Ald. A. Andrews, J.Pl., and later went to Lymington College where the pupils included Squire Fleming of Binstead, Mr. Cawley-Way of Arreton, and members of the family of Arthur Orton, the claimant in the famous Tichbourne cases. Upon his returning to the Island [Wight?] he became a well-known figure as a coaching guard and for 29 years he was employed on Messrs. Road's four-in-hand Tally-ho, and Messrs. Taylor's Victoria, which ran between Cowes and Newport an occasionally to other parts of the Wight. For the last 21 years he has been employed by the I.W.
