[All of the children of John Ashbaugh and Dorothy Whitling were probably born
in Clarion County, Richland Township, as that is where John and Dorothy lived
all their lives according to the Whitling family tree. However, Clarion County
was part of Venango County until it was formed out of Venango County in 1840.]

Daniel Ashbaugh's marriage certificate to Weizetta Sterner of Oct. 20, 1859,
spells his name "Eshbach." -- Marriage certificate.
Daniel Ashbaugh, with little chance for an educaton, learned the carpentry trade
with Abraham Soliday and followed that trade all his life, living in St. Petersburg

Daniel had three wives: First, Yetta Sterner; second, Margaret Turney, and third,

he was in the Dutch Reformed Church at Blairs Corners, PA, his mother carried

Amanda Lucinda Alsbach first married Martin Mehrten and had four children,
and then married Daniel Ashbaugh and had five children. -- Ashbaugh family tree.
Daniel Ashbaugh and Amanda Alsbach, after the birth of their first two children,
twins, moved in 1873 to Pilgreheim to Amanda's stepmother's house. [Ruth's father,
Frank Howard, one of the twins] remembers Grandma Alsbach and her old solid seat

While in Pilgreheim after 1873 Daniel Ashbaugh had a grocery store and was a
carpenter. He built barns, a flour mill at Knox, PA, and a hotel at Blairs Corners,

In about 1887 the family moved to Salem, PA, and lived there about 2-3 years.
Daniel Ashbaugh worked at the Foxburg railroad shops and Salem was nearer.
In about 1890 they moved to St. Petersburg, PA, for a better school. -- Ruth

Daniel Ashbaugh worked in a distillery for Joel Fink in St. Petersburg, PA.,
then built oil tanks with Reub Sterner. -- Ruth Ashbaugh.
Daniel Ashbaugh and Amanda Albach were living in St. Petersburg, PA, as of July
1908, the date of a postcard send to them then.

Ashbaugh, in her 83rd year, widow of the late Daniel Ashbaugh, died Saturday,
April 29th, at the home of her daugther, Mrs. A.M. Rugh, near Lamartine, Clarion
County, Pa." Funeral services were held Monday, May 1, at the home of Mrs.
A.M. Rugh, her daughter, by the Rev. Miller Harding, pastor of the M.E. church
at St. Petersburg, PA, of which the deceased was a member for many years. He
was assisted by Rev. Howard of Lamartine. Interment was in the Union Cemetery
at St. Petersburg with six grandsons as pallbearers. -- Obituary
