3584. Unknown FISCUS was born before 1683 in Germany. Gerhart Fiscus, his son, was born in 1695, so the father had to be born at least 12 years or so before that. He was married. Children were:

Jacob Frederick Fiscus, b. 1707, died in Surry Co., NC, in 1772. -- Davidson.
Johann Frederick Fiscus was the brother of Gerhart Fiscus b. 1695, and the son of Gerhart Fiscus. -- Armstrong.

"Gerhart (Gerhardt) Fiscus was born in a part of western Germany near France called the Rhine Palatinate. Gerhart and his younger brother Friederich arrived in Philadelphia in the ship Loyal Judith from Rotterdam, Holland, on September 2, 1743. Gerhart was 48 and Friederich was 36 years of age. His son, Gerhardt or Garrett Fiscus, married Mary Magdalena and they emigrated to America aboard the ship Phoenix from Rotterdam, Holland arriving in Philadelphia on October 20, 1774." -- Rhineland to America, p.11.

The ship Royal Judith with Master James Cowley sailed from Rotterday via the isle of Wight in England, arriving in Philadelphia on September 2, 1743. Among the passengers were Gerhard Fischkus, age 48, and Frederick Fischkus, age 36. Various spellings for the two brothers are Fiskes, Finkes, Fiscus, Fiechgus and Fiscos. Gerhard made a mark instead of writing his signature. Frederick and Gerhard were presumedly brothers. -- J.A and Elma Fiscus, p.23.

Surry Co. will abstracts I. 4. Will of Frederick FISHCUS, 65 years old. 13 Jan. 1772. Son Frederick gets home plantation of 128 acres on Mill Creek adjacent to Michael Howser and John Shore and livestock. Wife - Eve Fishcus. Son Adam Fishcus and Daughter Eve Fishcus get proceeds when of age. Children from my first wife: not named. Executor: Michael Houser. Testator signs in German as do two witnesses. Third witness is Henry Spenhour. Proved by Spenhour August Court 1772. Michael Houser qualified. The first wife was apparently Anna Elisabeth Schwind, and she was the mother of Anna Cunigunda Fiscus (b. 1734) who married Michael Hauser. He was a passenger on the Loyal Judith in Sept. 1743, and that he married 1) Anna Elisabeth Schwind between 1723 and 1729 in Germany and 2) Eva Maria ?? ca. 1751 in Maryland. Probably b. near Engelstatt or Woeffsheim, Germany, 7 kilometers from Ober Saulheim. -- Ferren.

Gerhardt and Friederich Fiscus may have chosen Pennsylvania because other Fiscuses were there, maybe relatives. Moreover, Pennsylvania was a colony known for its religious freedom. Many, many Germans settled there. -- Rhineland to America, pp. 45-46.

Friederich Fiscus moved to North Carolina where a number of other emigrants from the Rhine Palatinate had immigrated earlier. -- Rhineland to America, pp. 23-24.

The decendants of Friedrich Fiscus moved to NC and later to Indiana. The Indiana descendants have things well recorded. -- Alma Fiscus letter.
