William Joseph Sveda (son of Andrew Sveda and Maria Lakatos) was born March 28, 1913 in Derby, Connecticut, and died December 13, 1983 in Beverly, Massachusetts. He married Edna F. Patterson on November 1940 in New Haven, Connecticut, daughter of John S. Patterson and Annie Menslage.

William lived with the medical condition, Polycythemia, for approximately thirty years.
Persons suffering from this disease have numerous symptoms such as a very rosy complexion, severe headaches, dizziness and a reddening of the white part of the eye.
The body produces too many red blood cells, the opposite of Lukemia where too many white blood cells are made.

The disease attacks the organs of the body such as the spleen, the kidneys, the liver and the heart. The average life expectancy with this disease is 10 years, so Bill was pretty lucky to have an additional 20 years.

He was a widower for 11 years. He died at Beverly Hospital in December, 1983 and is buried beside his wife Edna in the Wenham Cemetery, Wenham, MA.
