| I did my first research on the Dickerson Family at the Newberry Library in Chicago, Illinois where I discovered Philemon Dickerson of the "Isle of Ely" Cambridgeshire, England. He came to this country in the mid 1600's and was one of the first settlers of Long Island, New York. My father's (Ralph E. Dickerson) great, great grand-father was Walter M. Dickerson, who came to Vigo County, Indiana in 1835. He, his wife Penelope, and quite a few other Dickerson family members are buried in the Dickerson Family Burying Ground in Vigo County. The cemetery is surrounded by a golf course! We need more information about Walter M. Dickerson's father Walter Dickerson, who lived in Southold, Long Island, NY in the mid-1700's in order to make the connection to Philemon Dickerson |
