Roy attened Simmons University at Abilene, Texas and graduated in 1931. He marrried Lily May Smith in Kress, Texas where she was teaching and where her father Rev. L.B. Smith was pastor of the Baptist Church. Roy and Lily met at a young people's party at the University Baptist Church in Abilene. Lily graduated in 1928 and lived in McCaulley. For a number of years Roy taught int he grade school there. In 1941-42 both taught at Hobbs near Rotan and that was the year of Lily's return to teaching for she had not taught since her marriage.

All three of their children were born ont he Hennington Place one mile north of McCaulley, Texas. Carol is the only one that does not have a family connected name. The Hennington's and Lily's people, the descendants of D.C. Smith and Berry Roe have been Baptist's for at least four generations. THe children joined the church at a very early age. One time they asked Lily why she was so strict about church attendance and she said, "Because I want you to continue to go to church from now on." Thinking back she suggested that she should have said, "Because it is right and very important."

In 1940, Roy had purchased the Edington House in the southeast part of town and had it remodeled for his young family. Roy and Lily lived in this house until all of their children were married in 1958 Bryan married in June, David in September and Carol in November.

Roy taught high school science in McCaulley in 1942-43 continuing until September, 1947 when he was appointed Postmaster.

Lily taught at Boyd Chapel and at Neinda in Jones County. Each was near enough for her to drive back and forth each day in her brown Chevrolet. After one year at Neinda Lily was elected to teach English and Speech at McCaulley where she enjoyed a ten year tenure.

For fifteen years Roy and Lily taught in Hamlin. Roy as a postal employee adn Lily teaching first grade. Because of health reasons Roy retired in 1966 and in 1971 Lily had been teaching for 33 years. Lily was bestowed the honor of the Texas State Life Membership and citation from the Hamlin Elementary Patent Teacher Association of which she was very proud.
