Phillipp Heinrich and wife Anna Elizabeth (Luhl) clearly came to America together or in close succession, although only Phillipp is documented in records available at Family Tree Maker (see Elizabeth's
individual record). He is listed as arriving 2 OCT 1753 aboard the Edinburg, which left Europe from Rotterdam. The couple's first first four children were born in Germany and their last two in Pennsylvania. Since they immigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany between 1737 and 1776, there should be additional information in loyalty oath records. According to Daniel Bly's From the Rhine to the Shenandoah, Philipp's will indicates he was a tailor and farmer. Bly's book says the line was for some time blocked at "[the] John Orndorff who died in Frederick County in 1798 and [the] Philip Orndorff Sr. of Shenandoah County, who died in 1838." As Bly recounts, matters began to break when Roy L. Orndorff visited the Nordrhein-Westfalen state of Germany and spoke with several Germans of the surname Ohrndorff there. Bly says Orndorff was working from an earlier book, The Christian Ohrndorff Family in Germany, by Julia Drake. That was in 1971; in 1978, Bly recounts that "Cleta W. Smith ... discovered the 1777 will of Philip Arndorff in Chester County, Pa. and several references to John Orndorff in the Pennsylvania Gazette of 1777 which proved that John and Philip of Virginia were sons of Philip of Chester County. Signature comparisons proved that Philip Arndorff of Chester County was the same Philipp Heinrich Arndorff, age 38, who arrived in Philadelphia in Oct. 1753." Then, in 1982, Camilla Berger "discovered the marriage record for Philipp Heinrich Arndorff and wife Elizabeth in the parish records of the village of Burbach." Later, Orndorff and Bly himself would further develop information
about this family. This is further explored in biographical notes on up-line individuals.

Be advised this is an almost strictly vertical tree: you will find direct ancestors and their siblings, with as much as I have on the direct ancestors and nothing but names on the siblings. Maybe when I have more time to devote to this hobby I will begin to explore horizontally. Within this limitation, I hope you find useful information herein.
