We have always had information which tells us about our ancestors back to 1809 but beyond this is a mystery. My branch of the Asher family came back to the UK in c.1849 to patent an invention, but Allan Asher (b. 1809) died in London in 1856 and his family never returned to America.
They left their entire estate, which was apparently a large plantation (?) called Sweetwater near Covington in Virginia, behind. Not only did they lose the estate and valuables but all the clues to their past. The American branch of the family has always been a mystery and we would like to learn a little more about it if possible.
The estate may well have belonged to Allan Asher's wife Pamela Jane Andrews, daughter of Major and Mrs Andrews, Virginia.
