"WHAT I KNOW ABOUT"
MARY FISH
by Martin Baldwin (great grandson)

I was fortunate enough to know Mary Fish. She is my great grandmother. She was born Oct. 5 1875 in Sidney, Michigan and died on Aug. 29 1965 in Sheridan, Michigan. Her father is Hezekiah Fish and her mother is Maranda Gilmore.
I remember that she always wore her hair so that it was pull straight back and put up in a bun. She always wore dresses that went almost all the way to the floor. They were the old fashion type of dresses. She was a very nice lady. She could cook up a storm. Everything she made was good. I used to go over for lunch often. I really enjoyed those lunches.
I remember also where she lived (Mary). I used to mow her lawn. It was a small house. Not that big of a yard. Her yard would slope down in the back and go to the property line where there was a row of hedges. I remember the back porch. It was a wooden porch built on stilts because of the slope.
I also remember the inside of the house. There was a small room just as you walked in the back door. It was to your left as you walk through the door. It was a room that seems to me to always be a little darker. To me it was her living room. She had a rocking chair. It was made out of wood only. Also in that room was an old wood stove with the stove pipe going up through the ceiling. Her kitchen as I remember, it was small. But a lot of good food came from that kitchen. Across from that dark room was the kitchen. It was small but a lot of good food came from that kitchen. Pies where her specialtys.
