SECOND GENERATION

2. Samuel WISER was born about 1783 in Haverhill, New Hampshire, USA. (1) There is a diference of 17 years in the two birth dates. This needs further research. Chances are that this is not the right person (b. 1783 - Father Benjamin, Mother Kezia). He was born in 1784 in Haverhill, Grafton, NH.(2) He was a Farmer in Apr 1813 in New York.(3) He served in the military on 8 Apr 1813 in New York, USA. Description gives gives his height as 5' 11" ; eyes black; hair, dark; coplecxion dark; age. 30; occupation, farmer; born Haverhill New Hampshire. His enlistement was for the war of 1812. He appeared on the census in 1820 in Truxton, Cortland, New York, USA. 1 male age 26 - 45 years
1 female age 26 - 45
2 females under 10 years
1 female 16 - 26 years
(John McCormick Wiser was not born at this time) He appeared on the census in 1830 in Truxton, Cortland, New York, USA. Vol. 22, p. 29 lists: Samuel Wiser, 2 males under 5 years, 1 males age 5 - 10, 1 male age 40 - 50; 1 female under 5 years, 1 female age 5 - 10, 1 females age 20 - 30 years. He died in 1834 in Truxton, Cortland, New York, USA. He has Ancestral File number 8NFG-74. From Ancestral File (TM), data as of 2 January 1996. He was married to Betsey Elizabeth BABCOCK about 1820 in Truxton, Cortland, NY.(2)

3. Betsey Elizabeth BABCOCK was born in 1790 in of Pittsfield, Berkshire, MA. (2) She was born about 1800 in Massachusetts, USA. She died in 1839 in Jo Davies County, Illinois, USA.(4) When Betsey died her children became separated. Amanda, the eldest daughter, reared the youngest daughter, Matilda Ann. John McCormick went to live with the Charles Morgan family in Jackson County, Iowa. After coming to Utah John lost track of his bothers and sisters and never succeeded in locating any of them again.

Albert was listed in the 1850 Census of Farmersburg, township, Clayton County Iowa with the family of his sister, Tempereance. No other information of Albert is known at this time. Nothing is known at this time of Ezra, Samuel and William Henry. It is thought that William Henry died young. William Henry and Albert Henry are probably children of Betsey and her second husband.

The children were all born in New York, probably in or near Truxton, Cortland County. She has Ancestral File number 8NFG-89. She was also known as Elizabeth Crandall?. No record of this person in Ancestral file. This could posibly be the same person as Elizabeth Crandal. Family records show the name as Betsey Babcock. Need more research. From Ancestral File (TM), data as of 2 January 1996.
6/11/2000 - There is a discrepancy between Ancestral File and the book Wiser Family Genalogy and History. Most family records and the Wiser book list the wife of Samuel Wiser's wife as Betsey Babcok. AF lists his wife as Elizabeth Crandall. Temple work has been done as Elizabeth Crandall. There is some refrence to the Crandall name in the Wiser book p. 7. This needs some clarification and work.
