3. William Thomas BANDY
III (photo) was born on 14 May 1932 in Columbia,
MO. He Navy (active) serving in Great Lakes IL, Memphas TN and finally Key West
FL. from 1950 to 1953. He received a degree in a BA Degree from the University
of Wisconsin about 1958. He died on 6 Nov 1996 in SanFrancisco, CA.
[Pete - brother]
In addition to a three year age difference, my brother and I did not share many
interests while growing up. Then he joined the Navy and was gone while I was
in High School. He returned from the Navy just in time for the both of us to
start Engineering School at the University of Wisconsin. In fact, he talked
into changing from Mechanical to Electrical Engineering. This turned out to
be a most fortunate decision. I was dissapointed when Bill dropped out of Engineering.
To this day, I believe that he would have done well but who really knows? For
much of his life Bill seems to have thrived on instability. He has been successful
and even shown signs of brilliance in a variety of occupational situations.
He finds ways to combine existing experience, emerging interests and obscure
opportunities to his advantage. I think he is the "most loaner" in
a family of loaners.
[Cindy - Sister]
Bill is at once detached and devoted. He moved out of the family early, joining
the Navy. I remember when he returned from the Navy we all three little sisters
welcomed this brother we couldn't remember well with a little show - mostly selfconscious
giggles. He's done many things - work with the insane, with student housing
rental, with teaching, politics... finally settling far from home and academics
in Califronia with a shoe repair business. You can tell he loves his family
because we bear the brunt of his wit!
He was married to Dorcas MCCULLOCH on 17 Apr 1954 in Urbana, IL. He was divorced
from Dorcas MCCULLOCH before 1963. William Thomas BANDY
III and Dorcas MCCULLOCH had the following children:
