In their early years I considered Helen, Cindy and Carol to be a burden or hardship
in my life. First they took from me the position of being the "baby"
of the family. I was old enough to learn how to change their diapers, I had
to be their baby-sitter, and was expected to even consider their safety and welfare.
My brother Bill was not the best role model for me in this context, and would
in fact find a way to pass his responsibilities in this regard off to his little
brother. Is it any wonder then that when the song Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
became popular I identified my situation by identifying each of the three title
words to one of my sisters?
Helen, or "Bothered" seemed to spend most of her time worrying about
things. She was a great "big" sister to the twins and to her credit,
withstood the teasing that her brothers heaped upon her at every possible opportunity.
From the very beginning, Helen has displayed intense passion for ideas, people,
animals, places, memories, causes, and I think for life in general. When she
has her mind set on some "cause" it seems to consume her almost to
the point where I think, she may be blinded to other perspectives as well as
the vulnerable to situations she might create for herself. But what do I know?
If it is her passion that runs her life, why not? Especially when her passions
are so obviously based on love.

Helen was not enough older than me to be a big sister - although she tried!
Although she outgrew her fantacy of being a horse (we had to call her Silver
for a while) she maintained the energy. When Helen does something her involvement
is intense and enthusiastic. This was an embarasing trait during our teenage
years! She writes creatively and persuasively.
