In their early years I considered Helen, Cindy and Carol to be a burden or hardship
in my life. First they took from me the position of being the "baby"
of the family. I was old enough to learn how to change their diapers, I had
to be their baby-sitter, and was expected to even consider their safety and welfare.
My brother Bill was not the best role model for me in this context, and would
in fact find a way to pass his responsibilities in this regard off to his little
brother. Is it any wonder then that when the song Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
became popular I identified my situation by identifying each of the three title
words to one of my sisters?
I think that my sister Carol was "Bewiched", but I can't for the life
of me remember why. Easiest to identify, she was the one "with dark hair
and no braids". I saw her as being more like our brother Bill than her
twin Cindy. I don't know for sure but I would guess that Carol would check out
to have the highest IQ of the family. Still, if she is so smart, why did she
go to law school and then take a job that didn't make her rich?

Carol and I are NOT identical twins. She grew up smart, I was funny. Her family
and professional life reflect a devotion to nurturing others. She is more than
smart, she is insightfull and acts on her concern for others. I think it is
significant that Carolhas a garden - she loves to grow both vegetables and flowers
because she values quality and beauty.
