303. Pearl Irene BARNETT was born on 6 Feb 1897 in Barnett Ridge, Barlow Township, Washington County, Ohio. She died on 20 May 1969 in Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. She was buried on 24 May 1969 in Rockland, Belpre Township, Washington County, Ohio in the Rockland Cemetery. She is buried beside her husband. She was eulogized. Services were held at the Barnett Ridge Methodist Church. She received undertaking services from Spenser Funeral Home, 220 Main Street Belpre, Ohio 45714.

"NEWSPAPER REPORT: WOMAN TAKES SPRAY POISON: Mrs. Pearl Barnett Allender, 42, wife of W.E. Allender of the Fleming neighborhood, swallowed a large quantity of arsenate of lead poison with suicidal intent at her home early Saturday morning. She is in Memorial Hospital where her condition is reported to be critical. She was admitted to the hospital at 7:45 a.m. about an hour after she took the poison, which she found in the house and which had been used last summer for potato bug sprays.

No cause is given for the attempt at self-destruction. According to members of her family, Mrs. Allender took the poison shortly after her husband, a WPA worker, left the home a mile and a half south of Fleming for his work. There are nine children in the family, the eldest 22, and all were in bed. The mother aroused the older children and informed them that she had taken four teaspoonsful of arsenate of lead which she found in the cupboard. One of the children hurried after the father, who found his wife in bed suffering from the effects of the poison. He summoned the Dixon ambulance and she was rushed to the hospital. A quantity of the poison which she had mixed in a tin cup from which she drank was brought to Marietta by the husband and one of the daughters who accompanied her to the hospital. The Allender family is one of the well known colored families of the Fleming neighborhood."

"WOMAN TO RECOVER: Condition of Mrs. Pearl Barnett Allender, 42, colored, resident of the Fleming neighborhood, who swallowed arsenate of lead with suicidal intent at her home early Saturday morning is improved at Memorial Hospital and she is expected to recover. She is the wife of W.E. Allender and mother of nine children, the youngest four years old."

She was married to William Emory ALLENDER (son of William Wallace ALLENDER and Phoebe MARTINA). She was fourteen years old when she gave birth to her first child. William Emory ALLENDER was born on 7 Nov 1890 in Dunham Township, Washington County, Ohio. He died on 3 May 1975 in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He was buried in Rockland, Belpre Township, Washington County, Ohio in the Rockland Cemetery. He is buried beside his wife. Pearl Irene BARNETT and William Emory ALLENDER had the following children:
