After her husband James died in 1959, she and the children moved to Baltimore, where she became a teacher with the Baltimore City School System.

Margaret retired from teaching in 1979, but continued being active in the community. She did volunteer service in nursing homes and tutored students in need. She served in various capacities at St. Marks United Methodist Church where she and husband Lew were members for over twenty years. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, the annual Sigma Crab Feasts, getting together with her dear friends from School #48, bus trips with 'the girls', and various other activities until her failing health precluded her participation in later years.

She was married to James Williams GRIMES (son of James Lofton GRIMES and Winnie Elizabeth MCGEHEE) in 1940. James Williams GRIMES was born on 17 Feb 1898 in Kelso, Desha County, Arkansas. He died on 2 May 1959 in Charleston, West Virginia. He was buried in Rockland, Belpre Township, Washington County, Ohio in the Rockland Cemetery. He was a. In 1940, or very shortly thereafter he and his wife moved to Madison, West Virginia where James assumed the position as principal of Carver High School. They reared five children.
