46. Lt. Robert Ambler DANDRIDGE R.S. was born on 21 Jan 1760 in Hanover Co., VA. He died on 20 Sep 1799 in His Plantation, VA. Revolutionar War soldier, with George Washington at Valley Forge, Plains, N. Y. and very possibly aided in defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown. He was in command of 21" Artillery. A DAR application, of at least one member, says Robert was later promotaed to Captain. He was awarded 2,666 acres for his part in the Revolutionar War.
DAR Lineage Book, v.52, #'s 5160, 46968, 1426, 2785, 2366, states, "--_-- Volunteered while at college and was lieutenant in the artillery under 'cousin' Capt. John Champe Carter."
William & Mary Q., v. 31, p.82, states the lineage of Robert Dandridge as being b. 21 June 1760, the son of Col. Nathaniel West Dandridge and Dorothea 'Spotswood' , she being daughrter of Alexander Spotswood, and he being son of Col. William Dandridge and Unity West, only daughter of Col. Nathaniel West. (Re-recorded, 5-9-1998, from p. 20, FROM VIRGINIA WITH LOVE, Pt. II, Thomas E. Barton, 1986). Taken also from Family Bible records as recorded in William & Mary Q. Magazine. "Robert A. Dandaridge (Va) 2nd Lieut., 1st Continental Artillery, 30 October 1777, 1st Lieut., 24th May, 1779 and served to June 1783. (Died_____)." (B.B. Fontain, p. 16, "HISTORY AND PEDIGREE OF THE DANDRIDGE FAMILY").
Bible of Robert Ambler Dandridge Jr and Ann Overton Goodwin, states. "Robert Dandridge son of Nathaniel West Dandridge born 1760 and departed this life 20 Sept 1799 at 10 o'clock AM." Sent to me by Diana Dandridge Allen, 10-6-1998. (T.E. Barton) He was married to Mildred Aylett ALLEN on 11 May 1783 in West Point, York Co. VA.

47. Mildred Aylett ALLEN was born on 7 Feb 1753 in Surry Co., VA. She died on 22 Mar 1822 in West Point, York Co. VA. Children were:

i. Richard Allen DANDRIDGE was born on 15 Jun 1784 in Hanover Co., VA. He died in 1848 in Moulton, AL. Info. supplied by Diana Dandridge Allen, 1614 Quailwood Drive, Enid, OK, 7 Sep. 1998. ( She may have furnished most much earlier, but if so I had to re-record, and had left out much of it. She is a descendant, and supplied all the information on her line. (Tom Barton).
ii. Alexander S. DANDRIDGE was born on 6 Apr 1786. He died on 4 Jul 1822. From Bible reicrds of Robert Ambler Dandridge & Ann Overton Goodwin, sent to me by Diana Allen 10-6-98.
iii. Robert "Ambler" DANDRIDGE Jr. was born on 5 Feb 1788 in Hanover Co., VA. He died in Mar 1840 in Bolivar, TN. Information from Pension Application of widow, War of 1812, Signed by Gilbert Moyers of Memphis, TN, No date given; unable to read place of death. Looks like Yorkman Court Cem or Gem.
iv. Allen Homes DANDRIDGE was born on 22 Sep 1789.

vi. Mildred Spotswood DANDRIDGE was born on 29 Sep 1795 in VA. She died on 20 Feb 1897 in Memhis, TN.
