PEDIGREE OF FERRERS
"Gwalchelme de Ferriers, father of Henri de Ferriers, assumed the name from a small town in Gascony, France, othrwise called Ferriers, from the iron mines abounding there, and also because he bore for arms six horseshoes. He came into England with the Conqueror and obtained a grant of Tutbury, Castle Stafford. His son, Robert de Ferriers, Lord of Tutbury, having contributed greatly to King Stephen's victory over King David of Scotland, was created by that monarch Earl of Derby 1138. He married Havise de Vitri. Their son, Robert II, Earl of Derby, married Margaret, daughter of William Peverel, Lord of Nottingham. Their son William, was styled Earl de Ferrers 1167. His son Robert II, was arbitrator between the Kings of Castile and Navarre 1190; took the cross 1187, became a crusader 1190; married Sybilla, dau. of Lord Beckwork. He died before Acre 1190. His son William, succeeded and had many honors added; became a Crusader 1218; marries 1192, Agnes, a sister of Earl of Chester. Their son, William, succeeded 1248; m. first, Sybilla Marshall---".
