In 1863 they established a Partnership in the wholesale fruit and produce business, in the name of McNeil Brothers. In 1867, they moved to New York and established a wholesale butter and cheese business under the name Archibald McNeil and Company. Three years later they embarked in the export and import business with Cuba, dealing in bituminous coal and produce. That business was discontinued in 1888 when Archibald IV returned to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Twice married, no children. Buried MT. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, Connecticut |

Notes for CORA DIX MCNEIL: It is unknown if Cora had children from either of her marriages. She is buried in St. Helena, California. After the death of her father, an entry in Homer's diary states, "Mother and Cora went East in August, 1882." In the 1901 City Directory for San Francisco, Cora D. White is listed as a proof reader. I would guess that she was working in her brother's printing business (McNeil Brothers Printing, owned by Albert Beebe McNeil). Albert, and his business, are also listed in the City Directory for San Francisco. |
