Obituary: BIRCH Nellie M., age 99, of Guthrie, services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Smith Memorial Chapel, Guthrie, Dr. E.B. Compton officiating. Burial in the Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. She was born Dec. 15, 1893 in Kerney, Ne. to William and Henrietta Kongabel. She died Aug. 26, 1993 at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie. Mrs. Birch moved to Guthrie by wagon in 1903. She married H.E. Birch on Dec. 5, 1911 in Guthrie. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1971. Mr. Birch died in 1972. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Riverside Home Extension Club. Survived by a son, H.E. "Johnny" Birch and his wife, Clara of Cookson, Ok.; 5 daughters, Helen Whittington and husband, Albert of Guthrie, Dorothy Monsey of Phoenix, Az., Pearl Jarred and husband, Roy of Guthrie, Nell Freeman and husband, Jim of Guthrie, Joyce Wood and husband, Eddie of Wynnewood, Ok.; 2 brothers, William Kongabel, Pasadena, Tx. and Harold Kongabel of Lago Vista, Tx.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, 2 brothers, 1 son, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Memorials may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church Building Fund of Guthrie.
