He was a Judge, mayor, city councilman and winemaker in Untertürkheim, Oberamt Cannstatt, Württemberg.
All relationships prior to Hans der Alte in this story are suppositions: none are, or likely can every be, proven. From Hans der Alte to the present, however, the family line in this story is unbroken and fully proven.

In the oldest Taufbuch of the Untertürkheim Evangelical Church, in the baptismal record of Johannes Jacobus, his name is given in Latin: "Georgio Scheyhing."

A vintner (grapegrower and winemaker) and city councilor, he is frequently mentioned as "the old Hans." (Hans der Alte). He was the Patriarch of all the Untertürkheim branches of the Scheihing Family.

The following material was written by Melinda Broyles Marian to her grandparents, Frank (Franz Julius) and Grace Scheihing, in 1970 when Melinda spent a term studying at "Stanford in Germany." While there she made contact with the Untertürkheim Scheihings.

The family is very old. The first mention of the name is in 1380 in an old public notice. Paul Scheihing thinks the family is one of the oldest in southern Germany. The family is certainly one of the oldest in Untertürkheim and has been there for over 450 years.

The following list was taken from an old church register. Unfortunately, during 1618-1648, the Thirty Years War, nothing much was added to the book. The church burned in 1693 and all the books burned so this record begins in 1694.

Then beginning with 1694 the family tree is clear and unbroken to the present, as in this genealogy and history of the family.

In the Marriage Register of Großingersheim, Kreis Ludwigsburg, in the entry on the marriage of Johann Georg's son Johann Michael to Sibyulla Magdalena Haug on 11 Nov 1736. It says the father of the groom is Johann Georg Scheyhing from Hofen by Bönnigheim.

He was married to Agnes before 1695. Agnes was born in Dec 1653. She died on 2 Mar 1731.
