THIRTEENTH GENERATION
783. Karl Ludwig Theodor
SCHEYHING was born on 6 Jul 1874 in Kassel, Hessen-Kassel, Germany.
He died on 27 Dec 1925 in Kassel, Hessen-Kassel, Germany. He was an Optician
in Kassel, Hessen-Kassel, Germany. Thea Blomquist says that Karl Ludwig had
a terrible falling out with his brother Christian Ludwig, apparently involving
the future of Scheyhing Optik, as a result of which they never spoke to one another
again.
However, Holger Metz wrote the Ned Benson on 11 Oct 1997:
Karl Ludwig Theodor Scheyhing was my grandfather. I never got to know him personally,
because he died in 1925 before my birth. From my grandmother and my mother I
have however many experiences of him.
When my great-grandfather Hermann Jacob Scheyhing died in 1895, both brothers
- Christian and Ludwig Scheyhing - together lead the business. Christian had
the commercial guidance and my grandfather was the practitioner. In 1905 my grandfather
Karl Scheyhing opened his own business. After his death in 1925 my grandmother
Anna Scheyhing continued to run the business, until her sons Otto and Heinz Scheyhing
took over the business. Now my cousin Charles-Heinz Scheyhing runs this business
for the third generation.
Of a "terrible falling out" I have never heard anything form my family
and other relatives.
I have many photos of my grandfather and his siblings up to his death. I have
a photo taken a few weeks before his death with his brothers Christian and Oskar
clearly *happy*.
The brother Christian after the deaths my grandfather of my grandmother helped
with the education of the children of his brother Karl. My mother has always
told of the beautiful family celebrations with at Uncle Christian. There are
many photos that shows this. In 1954, shortly before the death of Christian Scheyhing,
my grandmother was with me to visit Christian. It was a joyous atmosphere.
Because of all of this I can not believe that both brothers had such a heavy
dispute that they no longer spoke with one another. It is also unintelligible
why the son Hermann Charles Scheyhing (1904-1993) should have emigrated in 1925
to the USA because of the alleged dispute of his father with his brother.
There is a possible explanation: About 1960 both cousins, Otto Scheyhing, son
of Karl
Scheyhing, and Richard Scheyhing, son of Christian Scheyhing, had a dispute because
of their businesses. These two cousins thereafter spoke no longer with one another.
I accept that Anneliese Scheyhing, sister of Richard Scheyhing (they emigrated
to Australia), and her daughter Thea Blomquist in Rochester, Michigan, wrongly
interpreted this issue.
He was married to Anna Henriette BERGMANN (daughter of
Otto Albert BERGMANN and Anna Maria MERKLER) on 13 Oct 1906
in Kassel, Hessen-Kassel, Germany. Anna Henriette BERGMANN
was born on 11 Mar 1883 in Straßburg, Alsaß (France). She died on
7 Oct 1956 in Kassel, Hessen-Kassel, Germany. Karl Ludwig Theodor SCHEYHING
and Anna Henriette BERGMANN had the following children:
