Samuel and his family moved in approximately 1842 from Hart County, Ky to the Breckenridge, MO area. They probably came to Missouri at the same time William's (his brother) widow, Sarah McCubbin Bennett and her sons moved to Missouri. Parents: Fisher Rice BENNETT and Judith Hansen.

Washington Worth BENNETT was born on 28 Feb 1878 in Hart County (Eve), KY. He died on 4 Jan 1944 in Hart County (Eve), KY. He was buried in Aetna Grove Baptist Church (Green County), KY. Olin Bennett Faris told Richard Bennett in November 1992 that her father, Washington Worth, always said he wanted to be buried in the Bennett Cemetery on the farm. This is the cemetery where his parents are buried. His wife, Minnie Alice, always told him she would never bury him in the Bennett Cemetery because no one would maintain the cemetery. Based on the condition of this cemetery in 1992, it is obvious she was correct.

Olin also said her Dad did not want to be embalmed! Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia came to the home to prepare his body for burial in respect for his wishes concerning his burial. Frances Emarine Nunn had a brother named "Washington Worth", born 1849 according to 1850 Census for Barren County, KY (page 480). This is probably source of his name. HE WAS NAMED AFTER HIS UNCLE!!! Parents: John BENNETT and Frances Emarine NUNN.

Gleason McCubbin's summary for James P. McCubbin shows William's marriage to Sally McCubbin. His birth is listed as 1775 and death as 1832. Gleason's history indicates family may have come from Rockingham County, NC.

"The ancestors of William M. Bennett are unproven. The Missouri Bennetts have it that William is a son of Fisher Rice Bennett and Judith Hansen. There is a Fisher Rice Bennett in the records of Albermarle County, VA buying land and witnessing deeds in the period 1766-1776. Also, a 1790 census index (actually a 1782 tax list) showing a F. R. Bennett with 7 white souls."

NOTE # 4

John Henry Bennett had a 2-page letter dated Feb. 17, 1964 to a Mrs. Buckner from a Don Bennett in Alma, Nebraska. He referenced correspondence from Geneva Bennett, John Henry's wife, and asked Mrs. Buckner to forward a copy of his letter to Geneva.

The following information is contained in the letter. Don's grandfather, Thomas Cognall Bennett, was a brother to a John Bennett. Thomas had three brothers and he came to Missouri from KY and lived in Missouri until his death.

Another brother was "Fisher" who is buried in Missouri.

Another brother, "Will" returned to KY from Missouri.

William Bennett and Sarah McCubbin's four children are based on the above information PLUS the information contained in NOTE 5, below.

Following information was obtained from Ronnie and Brenda Bennett, St. Joseph, MO in 1999.

Daviess County History Book ---

James B. Bennett's father, Fisher R. Bennett, came from KY to Missouri in 1842.
Fisher's birth, death and marriage information is included in the history.

William Bennett's obituary was also provided by Ronnie and Brenda Bennett ---

William Bennett, Born June 10, 1825, in Hart County, KY and came to Missouri with his mother and older brother at age 17 (1842).

This additional information on William and Fisher is consistent with these two names in Note # 4, above.

He died in 1832 in Hart County, KY. He was buried in 1832 in Hart County (unknown), KY.⁽²⁰⁷⁾ James Bennett has information from his Dad, John Henry, indicating William drowned while trying to swim across Green River from the Bowling Wheeler farm. However, John Henry could not locate his gravesite which is suppose to be somewhere near the Wheeler farm which is located across Green River from the mouth of Lynn Camp Creek area. The Wheeler farm is reached by road from Canmer off Highway 31E.

It is believed that William lived on the land that later was owned by Boland Wheeler. Parents: Fisher Rice BENNETT and Judith Hansen.

He was married to Sarah (Sally) MCCUBBIN on 22 May 1811 in Hardin (Hart County), KY.⁽²⁰⁸⁾ Children were: Fisher R. BENNETT, John BENNETT, William BENNETT, Thomas Cognall BENNETT.

William BENNETT was born on 10 Jun 1825 in Hardin (Hart County), KY. See Notes # 4-5 under birth of William's father, William Bennett. He died in Apr 1913 in Daviess Co, MO. He was buried in Trosper Cemetery, Daviess Co, MO. Parents: William BENNETT and Sarah (Sally) MCCUBBIN.

He was married to Susan Jane Trosper on 18 Jan 1848. William moved to the Breckenridge, MO area with his mother and brothers in 1842. There were probably several others that moved from Hart (then part of Hardin) County, KY to Missouri.

Some genealogy records indicate that William and Sarrah had 8 children.

Ky.>.⁽²⁰⁹⁾ He served in the military between 1861 and 1865 in Union Solider.⁽²¹⁰⁾ He was buried in 1872 in Leo Vance Farm, Eve, Green County, KY.⁽²¹¹⁾ He died on 15 Sep 1872. He has Ancestral File number QJLK-3K. He has reference number 263.

He was married to Mary E. McCubbin on 26 Apr 1860 in ?. Children were: Sam Bennett, Marion Bennett , Josh Bennett, Sarah Bennett , Letha Bennett, Matilda Bennett .
