On August 18, 1900 when William was 33 years old, he and Ollie Ann Noe told her parents they were going to Lebanon, KY to have a photograph made. When they got to Lebanon they caught the train to Louisville, KY and there met Frank McCubbin, William's brother. Frank helped them get to the ferry where they crossed over to Jeffersonville, Indiana and got married. Frank witnessed the marriage. The marriage certificate is now part of the McCubbin record file maintained by me. When the newly wed couple got back to Eve and told the Noe family, Mrs. Noe is reported as saying that if she had known why they were going to Lebanon she would not have let Ollie go and asked if they were ashamed? They were not!

After William married he ran a drug store at Eve, KY. This drug store carried only one liquid drug. The drug store building near Eve still stands but is in bad repair. His first son John was born while the family lived at Eve. Ollie his wife did not like the drug store or the "rough" neighborhood they lived. She persuaded her husband to move to Adair county, KY. While in Adair County his sons Paul and Lewis were born. Later a farm was purchased in Bengal, Taylor County, KY . The remainder of the family were born in Taylor County.

While a farmer in Taylor county William was elected to the Kentucky State Legislator. He ran for election with the promise to get the legislator to build a bridge across Little Pitman Creek. Little Pitman Creek is the boundary between the McCubbin Farm and he Cowherd Farm where Lena (Wife of Robert McCubbin) was raised. He succeeded in having the state build the bridge and never ran for office again.

Electrical power was available in the mid 1930's via REA but Willaim refused to have it installed on the farm. He feared that the use of electricity would idle his children. All the children had left the farm by the late 1940's and the farm was sold to the Graves brothers. A very few years later oil was struck on the farm during the oil boom years of Taylor and Green Counties.
