John (Jackie) Robert Clopton Jr.⁽²⁷⁵⁾ was born in 1795 or 1800 in Pittsylvania County, VA.⁽³⁾⁽²⁷⁶⁾ This appears to be same person as "Jackie" Clopton referenced in some of Geneva Crump Bennett's genealogy notes.

The 1870 Hart County census lists him as age 70, making his birth year 1800 instead of 1795, and Martha (his second wife) as age 67. Daughters Elizabeth and Louisa were living with them in 1870. He died in 1881 in Hart County, KY. Information on marriage obtained from Clopton family history prepared by Arvin T. Hnederson, MD and his daughter, Susan A. Henderson, Attorney. The Hendersons conducted extensive and detailed research in '91-'97 on the Hart County Clopton families. A copy of their genealogy narrative is located in the Clopton family file at the Hart County Historical Society in Munfordville. Richard Bennett also has a copy dated March 19, 1997.

Arvin Henderson's mother, Susan Alice Clopton Wade, was a sister of Geneva Crump Bennett's grandfather, James Buchanan Clopton. The above Clopton history contains comments (page 13) by Geneva Crump Bennett that she made to Charles J. Slayton sometime prior to her death in December 19977. Comments relate to her memories of the log house at the top of Rio Hill on Highway 31-E that was the home of her great-grandparents, Charles Clopton & Artellia Hodges.

Charles Buchanan ("Charlie") Clopton⁽²⁸³⁾ was born on 22 Mar 1822 in Hart County, KY.⁽³⁾ This Charles Clopton appears to be the same Charles B. Clopton who was the father of James Buchanan Clopton. Charles B. Clopton's father was a "Jackie" Clopton.

Records for this Charles Clopton indicate that John Clopton was his father. Could it be that John's nickname was "Jackie"? This is only link in the Clopton lineage that does not exactly match from recent generations to the early 1700's! He died on 2 Mar 1891 in Rio Hill / Hwy 31E area in Hart County, KY. George T. DeFevers, age 12, was living in the Charles B. Clopton home when the 1860 Census was taken. He is probably a relative of Charles' mother, Christina DeFevers, who died in 1829.

Verbal information from Edwin Crump et. al. says Charles died from a kidney disorder. He was buried in Knoxes Creek Baptist Church, Hart Co., KY. Their farm was approximately half-way from the entrance to the Round Bottom road and the end of the road. Lola's sister and brother-in-law, Roxie Clopton and Lively Edwards, live for many years on the farm just south of the Cambell farm. The Edwards farm was just north of the Lola & Roxie's parents' farm, James Buchannon & Mary Ann Clopton.

She was married to W. Lively Edwards in 1909 in Hart County, KY.⁽²⁹¹⁾ Roxie was married 2nd time to Ezra Whitlow of Linwood, KY.

Their farm was approximately 2/3 distance from the entrance to the Round Bottom road and the end of the road. Roxie's sister and brother-in-law, Lola Clopton and George Campbell, lived on the farm just north of the Edwards farm. The Edwards farm was just north of the Lola & Roxie's parents' farm, James Buchannon & Mary Ann Clopton.

Roxie and Lively Edwards in the early 1950's built a new brick home in the Linwood community. He also owned in the 1940's - early 1950's the farm next to John Henry Bennett.

A March 20, 1998 note by John Morrison indicates his parents moved from Claiborne County, TN in about 1819.

I have always been interested in what happened to this family since there are no Cogdal family on Hart County census records after I believe the mid-1800's. Will look at the pages for homes around the John Bennett family to see when no Cogdal familys are listed. Parents: Joseph Cogdal and Lucy Southern.
