 Includes NotesNotes for Eugenie LeGrenzy:
Half-sister of Camille Schmidt

According to Kaethe Beutler:

He (Adolph Rothstein, RN84) was married to a former actress, a gen-
tile from impoverished Austrian nobility. She freely spent his money, or he
spent it for her, because she owned one of the most beautiful strings of
pearls and a lot of valuable jewelry. Her clothes were bought in Paris. They
owned a villa near Ischl in Austria, where they spent several months in
summer every year with their two children, a girl (Elsie, RN103) and a boy
(Fritz, RN104). Besides, they travelled every year in Spring to Biarritz, a
resort on the Atlantic Coast of Spain.

The beginning was good, but the end was bad. My uncle died at age
forty eight of a streptococcus infection. His widow moved with the children
first to Berlin and after a few years to Graz in Austria, where her whole
family lived. When her son (RN104) was sixteen, she finally discovered that
for some time already her butler had introduced the boy to a bordello. Since
she did not know what to do, she sent the boy to his uncle in Berlin, the
younger brother of her late husband (Max Rothstein, RN86). This was her
greatest mistake, because this uncle as well as his wife were neither
willing nor able to help the boy. However, before going home, he stopped at
Vienna and went there to a doctor because he was afraid he had caught
syphilis. The doctor reassured him, but he did not believe the doctor. When
he arrived home, he committed suicide.

My aunts money was for the most part invested in Russian bonds.
When the war between Russia and Austria started, she did no receive any
interest, nor was there a market for the bonds. However, she had enough
property which she sold, which provided here with enough money to live.
Later on, she started to sell her jewelry, which again gave here enough
money. Her daughter (RN105) married very soon after the boy had died, and
then she married a count.
