Heman Swift (son of Elisha Swift and Mary Ransom) was born 1757 in Kent, Lichtfield County, CT, and died November 02, 1814 in Kent, Lichtfield County, CT.

GEN. HEMAN SWIFT. Born in Connecticut, 1736; died in Connecticut November 2,
1814. On March 27, 1758, he was commissioned by Thos. Fitch, governor of
Connecticut, first lieutenant Ninth, company under Col. David Worcester, for
the invasion of anada and served through the French war. At the breaking out
of the war of the Revolution he was chosen as colonel of a Connecticut
regiment and served through the entire war. Gen. Swift was a personal friend
of Gen. Washington and was held by him in high esteem. He was a member of
Gen. Washington's staff and wintered with him at Valley Forge. After the
close of the war, from 1789 to 1802, he served continually as a member of
the upper house of the state legislature.
