27TH GENERATION

1790. Hannah Denton was born in 1673 in Hempstead, Long Island, Queens, Nassau County, New York. She was buried in 1748 in Sunk Meadow, Smithtown, Long Island, New York. She died on 17 Aug 1748 in Smithtown, Suffolk, Long Island, New York. The office of the Surrogate of the county of New York shows letters of administration on the estate of Hannah's husband, Thomas Treadwell, granted on 23rd of August, 1722. The memorandum of her oath, taken on the same day in qualifying as administratrix, is on file in the office of the clerk of the Court of Appeals at Albany, NY.

By an instrument she released to her son, Benjamin Treadwell, her interest in the property on Great Neck whereon her husband was residing at the time of his decease. This homestead comprised 250 acres in the present town of North Hempstead.

After Thomas' death, Hannah moved to Smithtown and lived with her son Timothy until her death.

She was married to Capt. Thomas TREADWELL in 1695. Capt. Thomas TREADWELL was born in 1672. He died in 1722 in Hempstead, Long Island, Queens, Nassau County, New York. Thomas was a Captain in the Militia of his country. He is frequently mentioned as 'gentleman' and 'esquire.' He held a few minor town offices such as surveyor of highways and to take account of the town's money. He was a vestryman and warden of St. George's Church, Hempstead.

The earliest record of Thomas is as a witness with John Tredwell to a deed from Thomas Lester and wife Dorcis of Hempstead, to Samuel Denton, Jr. dated 25th of May, 1691. He then appears as a witness to two deeds to Peter Titus on 28th May, 1695.

On the 25th of January, 1697, the Governor of the Province of New York appointed Thomas Treadwell to the captaincy of a Company of Foot in Col. Thomas Willet's regiment. On the 28th of June, 1722, Joseph Thorn was commissioned a captain of militia for Hempstead in the place of Thomas Treadwell.

The book, "Descendants of Edward Tre(a)dwell Through His Son John" by William A. Robbins, 1911, is in the possession of Sue Montgomery-Cook and contains a great deal of information on this family. Hannah Denton and Capt. Thomas TREADWELL had the following children:
