1925. Capt. John "John
Jun" DENTON was born in 1713 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. He
died in 1765 in VA. When he wrote his will in 1755, he called 417 acres home.
This was perhaps just before he went off to assist Colonel George Washington
and General Braddock. His will was filed on August 4, 1767, but the inventory
was taken two years earlier on October 1, 1765. His property was where the North
River forked between Peaked Ridge and Woodstock. It was on a hill near the Old
Patton line.
From the Winchester, VA court records: "John Denton's widow, Sarah Denton,
daughter of Caleb O'Dell remarried and refused her legacy under the terms of
John Denton's Will." John Denton's will was witnessed by the "Widow
Mary Little and Jonas Little."
He was married to Sarah O'DELL in 1735
in New York. Sarah O'DELL was born in 1712. She
died in 1810 in Cocke CO, TN. After John Denton's death, Sarah married by 1767
John O'Dell. She may have had three children by Capt. O'Dell. She then became
Sarah O'Dell-Denton-O'Dell! John and Sarah, along with some of the children
of the late John Denton migrated to East Tennessee. Two of the sons lived on
Sinking Creek on land "adjoining the lands of Col. John Tipton, in the
area of Sinking Creek Baptist Church." Capt. John "John Jun"
