2537. Rev. James DENTON was born in 1774. He died in 1827 in Jennings County, Indiana.

He was married to Sarah CLARKSON on 20 Jan 1794 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. Sarah CLARKSON was born on 1 May 1775 in NC. She died on 1 Oct 1846 in Jennings County, Indiana. She was buried in Edwards Cemetery. Rev. James DENTON and Sarah CLARKSON had the following children:

child3341 vi. John Bunard DENTON was born on 27 Jul 1806 in TN. He died on 24 May 1841 in battle with Indians. He was buried in 1901 in Courthouse Lawn, Denton, TX (Third burial site.). Information on John Bunyan Denton's parents is from Martha Baker Walker family Bible, Allen's biography of Denton and the John Denton Carter files, as well as a letter from William D. Denton, Elizabethtown, NY.

John Bunyan Denton was a noted Methodist minister of the Texas frontier of
1836, orator, Indian fighter and lawyer and who was killed by the Indians
in 1841. He was a member of Stephen B. Austin's first settlement in what
was then Mexico and later Texas. Both the city and county of Denton ain
Texas are named after John Bernard Denton.

From Stephen F. Austin's Register of Families, edited by Villa Mae
Williams from the original in the General Land Office, Austin, TX. The
introduction is by Empresario Esteven F. Austin under law of colonization
of State of Coahuila and Texas, March 24, 1825: John Denton is listed as
single and is give the 1/4 league between Miller and Laky to lay between
the wood and the river; one quarter adjoining John Brown on Carancahua
Creek.

Denton CO, TX is a 900 square-mile county situated in the Grand Prairie
and Eastern Cross Timbers region of north central Texas. Although earlier
a part of Nacogdoches CO, in its first session the Texas Congress included
the area in Fannin CO where it remained until 1846 when Denton CO was
created. Both the county and county seat are named after John B. Denton
who was killed in 1841 near the south county line in a battle with the
Keechi Indians. A lengthy first-hand account of the Indian battle in which
John Bernard Denton was killed is a part of the Library of Sue
Montgomery-Cook.

child3345 x. William C. DENTON was born in 1802. He died on 14 Nov 1859 in Sevier County, Arizona. From William's Will:

"In the name of God. Amen. I William C. Denton being weak in body and knowing that life is uncertain, being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make this my last will and testament revoking all other wills or codicils by me heretofore at anytime made.

First I resign my body to the dust from which it came, and my spirit to God who gave it. Second I wish all my just debts be paid. Third, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Nancy Denton the residue of my property and effects during her natural life, and after her death what may be remaining to be equally divided among my children, to wit: Elizabeth Sarah Stroop, wife of J.S. Stroop deducting from her part the sum of two hundred and ninety-nine dollars and fifty cents which I have already advanced to her out of my Estate up to this date.

To William F. Denton deducting from his part the sum of one hundred and thirty-eight dollars which amount I have already advanced him out of my estate. Mary N. Miller wife of Washington Miller deducting from her part the amount to her up to this date out of my estate (the forty acres of land on which he now lives) is included in the above amount of $341. John B. Denton, Byron M. Denton, Nancy Jane Denton and James M. Denton.

I hereby nominate and appoint my beloved wife Nancy Denton and Stroud J. Stroop my executrix and executor to carry into effect this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I William C. Denton have hereinto set my hand and seal as my last will and testament this 28th day of October, AD 1859. Signed and sealed in the presence of us as witnesses, H. G. Rind John D. Britten."
