3365 ii. James Monroe DENTON was born on 20 May 1818 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He died on 25 Feb 1880 in Menard County, Illinois. James owned property adjacent to property owned by Abraham Lincoln and they were acquaintances. In 1846 James and his brother George W. were involved in an altercation with their brother-in-law Cassing Brown and Cassing subsequently died from axe wounds several days later. According to Carl Sandburg's book, "Abraham Lincoln: Abe was named as the prosecutor in the case but felt he could not obtain a conviction so left the questioning of the witnesses and the final plea to the jury with another prosecutor. The Denton brothers were acquitted.
3366 iii. Joseph DENTON was born on 24 Jul 1820. He died on 4 Sep 1845.
3367 iv. Sarah Elizabeth DENTON was born on 16 Aug 1822 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. She died on 31 Oct 1901 in Menard County, Illinois.
3368 v. America DENTON was born on 10 Feb 1825.
3369 vi. George Washington "Wash" Denton was born on 2 May 1827 in KY. He died on 11 Nov 1913 in Menard County, Illinois.
3370 vii. Martha R. DENTON was born on 17 Feb 1830. She died in Mar 1857.
3371 viii. Thomas Henry DENTON was born on 7 Apr 1832.
3372 ix. William Gates DENTON was born on 27 Dec 1833. He died on 4 Jul 1894.

He was married to Polly MCMANNIS on 23 Aug 1825 in Garrard County, Kentucky.
