child2349 ii. Lawrence Washington was born in 1718 in Bridge's Creek, Wakefield, Westmoreland County, Virginia. He died in 1752 in Mt. Vernon, Fairfax County, Virginia. In 1748, acted with Thomas Lee and his brother Augustine Washington to petition the King for permission for a grant of lands beyond the Alleghanies. They were granted permission pending the building of a fort to protect at least 100 settlers homes in the next seven years. They received a half million acres free of tax for a period of 10 years. They requessted a cargo sutable for Indian trade for delivery Nov. 1749. In 1750 Christopher Gist was hired to explor the land and keep note of his findings. (Everhart, 1882)
