16. HILDEGARDE was born about 802. She died in 841. The wife of Gerard had been in dispute until an article by Auzias gave a convincing case that she was an until then unknown daughter of Louis I (see NEHGR, 109:180-181).

She was married to GERARD of Auvergne about 820. GERARD of Auvergne was born about 795.⁽⁷⁾ He died on 25 Jun 841 in Battle of Fontenoy, near Auxerre, France.⁽⁸⁾ Count of Auvergne. An adherent of King Pepin, he died in the Battle of Fontenoy in the army of Charles the Bald. HILDEGARDE and GERARD of Auvergne had the following children:
