2717. Stephen Gildersleeve ⁽¹³⁵⁾ was born in 1720 in Hempstead, Long Island, Queens, Nassau County, New York. He died on 28 Jan 1783 in Northport, Suffolk, New York. Descendants of Stephen, Richard and Jonathan Gildersleeve, Sons of Richard and
Elizabeth (Rogers) Gildersleeve, of Hempstead, New York:
1. Stephen Gildersleeve, son of Richard and Elizabeth (Rogers)
Gildersleeve, was born at Hempstead, New York about 1719 and died at Northport,
New York in 1783. He married in the First church at Huntington, New York 24
December, 1745 to Elizabeth Whitehead, baptised in the First Church at
Huntington, New York 5 March, 1725, died at Northport, New York in 1791,
daughter of Thomas and Mary Whitehead. By the will of his father Stephen
received all lands and patent rights in the township of Huntington, purchased
in 1724 by his father. Stephen sold to Josiah Rogers, blacksmith, 11 December,
1751 for 21 pounds, land at Cow Harbor (Deeds, Huntington, N. Y. III, p. 160).
He joined the First Church at Huntington 3 June, 1762. On 4 May, 1764 his
estate was evaluated at 14pounds/14/0, tax 1 pound/4/6. He was in 1773
overseer of highways for the country road to Whitman's Hollow, non Commack,
with others. He was signer of Colonial Associations at Huntington, New York 8
May, 1775. He died probably in 1783. The will of his wife, dated 23 March,
1789, was proved 13 October, 1791.
